Caregiver and auxiliary nurse
Blanche Lizandra Coetzee’s experience as a caregiver and auxiliary nurse taught her that one must be passionate about the profession.
Some of the qualities required are empathy, patience and respect, she said, adding that understanding people's beliefs and personalities is two of the things that must be prioritised. "I've had an amazing time so far working with patients; I learn new things every day, and it's quite exciting," Coetzee said. She believes that blessings always come to those who help and care for the sick and elderly.
Although it might be frustrating at times and require lengthy periods of standing on your feet, at the end of the day, it’s worth it. She went on to add that choosing caregiving and auxiliary nursing as a career was a no-brainer for her. "If you love your job and your patients, you will remain positive."
