Esther Nelago Tangi Shigwedha is an associate with Dr Weder, Kauta and Hoveka who specialises in litigation, debt collection, and trust registration. A litigator's first responsibility is to be ethical in upholding the constitution and ultimately the law.
Upon admission into the profession, litigators take an oath that underscores their responsibility to the court. Secondly, as litigators, their obligation is to present their client's case to the best of their intellectual capabilities.
They have a duty to honour our clients instructions and protect their private information. "I am in civil litigation and debt collection. I deal with the enforcement of my client’s rights in a court of law," she said.
An effective litigator must consistently engage in reading, ongoing learning, and gaining expertise in various domains of law, economics, and politics. It's crucial to review case law within their jurisdiction and the evolving case law in other jurisdictions. This practice not only aids in assisting the court and clients but also plays a significant role in shaping and advancing our law, which is still in its developmental stage.
