Raimo Dengeinge
Viutuaua Timia Kameeta is a 23-year-old ambitious woman who has created a life of purpose through her dedication to karate. Achieving her ultimate dream, she earned her first-degree black belt in traditional karate in May 2023. Her journey began at the age of eight.

For the past 12 and a half years, she has been training at the Goju Ryu Karate dojo in Namibia.

A martial artist in the field of karate is someone who has dedicated themselves to mastering the techniques, philosophies and discipline of this ancient martial art. These individuals train rigorously, compete in various tournaments and often earn ranks that signify their proficiency and dedication. Karate practitioners, like Kameeta, embody the spirit of martial arts through their commitment to continuous improvement and cultural appreciation.

"My eldest brother first started karate and as a little sister, I wanted to copy everything he did, so I joined," Kameeta recalls.

Her passion for the sport was immediate and enduring. She was inspired by the possibility of living a martial artist's lifestyle and applying its principles to her everyday life. Her journey in karate has been marked by significant achievements, including her first silver medal as a yellow belt and her participation in the national team twice. She won a gold medal in team kata in Namibia in 2013 and competed in Durban, South Africa, as a kata athlete.

Daily practice

Currently, Kameeta is a student at the International University of Management (IUM), studying health and wellness. She is in her third year and aspires to work in community health and public health.

Karate has profoundly shaped Kameeta's life. "Traditional karate taught me to be patient, resilient and down to earth," she explains.

The discipline she learnt from karate is something she applies daily, emphasising the importance of awareness and discipline in all aspects of life. Karate also provided her with valuable skills such as self-defence, increased awareness and cultural appreciation.

Teamwork

Kameeta believes that discipline is the cornerstone of success in sports. "Discipline is the number one trait that needs to be practiced every day of your life and that is towards yourself and other people around you," she advises. Respect, honesty, integrity and loyalty are other crucial traits she emphasises. "To be successful, never be selfish, but work together as a team. Teamwork makes the dream work," she says.

In addition to physical training, Kameeta highlights the importance of mental fitness and cognitive training. "As a karate-ka, we meditate before and after class and do brain and body workouts that can help manage stressors in one's life. The mind and body are one," she notes.

Kameeta's journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, discipline and passion. Her story serves as an inspiration to others, showing that with dedication and a love for the sport, one can achieve great heights in martial arts and beyond.
