SuperFly Bio Converters business owners: Sven Gruettemeyer and Oliver Bause
Local company SuperFly Bio Converters uses insects to transform organic waste into valuable products like natural fertilisers and insect proteins. Founded by Sven Gruettemeyer and Oliver Bause in early 2020, the business started in a garage just before the Covid-19 lockdown. They were recognised as Sanlam Bridge winners in 2022, which garnered visibility for the company.
Currently, they source pre-consumer food waste, excluding animal waste and dairy, to feed insect larvae. Both founders grew up in Windhoek, with Gruettemeyer having prior experience. Challenges include finding solutions, employees, and funding, while the aim is community expansion. Starting early every day, they manage processes, colony health, and larval care. The plan is to grow production efficiently and maximise space usage.
