In a recent interview, Emeritha Mofuka, the vibrant owner of Emy’s City Centre Airbnb, shared her unexpected journey into the Airbnb business and her experiences so far.

“I never dreamt of owning an Airbnb,” Emerita said. “I have always been business-minded, but this idea just clicked, and surprisingly, I am enjoying it. Hosting has become a passion.”

Establishing competitive pricing for an Airbnb can be complex, she added, emphasising the importance of balancing cost and quality.

“Pricing an Airbnb is tricky,” she admitted. “Upkeeping requires a lot, from cleaning to providing amenities that compete with five-star establishments. Everything needs to be 100% on point to attract referrals. Our pricing reflects these necessities, ensuring a fully furnished, comfortable apartment.”

The convenience of booking and payment through the Airbnb app has streamlined the process for both hosts and guests.

“The Airbnb app makes everything accessible and convenient. You can book and pay online immediately, which we prefer upon booking," Emeritha explained.

Personal connections

Discussing market trends, Emeritha noted that her clientele primarily consists of business travellers due to her property's central location in the CBD area.

“Our clients are mainly international business travellers, but we also cater to those on holiday and leisure trips. A clean, comfortable space is paramount. We aim to create a ‘home away from home’ feel, considering what we would want as guests ourselves.”

Hosting has offered Emeritha more than just a business opportunity – it has enriched her life through personal connections.

“Apart from feeding my family, my favourite part about hosting is meeting different people. I recently had a client from Canada who offered to host me when I travel there. These interactions make hosting rewarding and full of possibilities,” she said.

When asked whether she recommends Airbnb over traditional hotels, Emeritha highlighted the unique advantages of Airbnb stays. “The charm of Airbnb is that it offers a home-like environment without the restrictions of hotels. Guests can feel like locals and enjoy the comfort of a whole place to themselves. It’s ideal not just for international travellers but also for locals seeking a break from routine.”

For those interested in booking or learning more about Emy’s City Centre Airbnb, Emeritha can be reached through various platforms. “You can find us on Facebook, Instagram, Booking.com, and via WhatsApp. Our handle on social media is @emys.airbnb.”

Emy’s City Centre Airbnb stands as a testament to the personal touch and unique experiences that Airbnbs can offer, setting a high standard for hospitality in the heart of the city.
