Kalahari Holdings: Empowering first-time renters
Catering to the diverse needs of clients
While investments in various sectors contribute to their success, agriculture and property remain the primary focus of Kalahari Holdings.
Kalahari Holdings, a prominent investment company established in 1989, has emerged as a significant player in the fields of property development, agriculture and diverse investments. In an exclusive interview with My.Na Properties, Kalahari Holdings’ marketing manager, Tuulikki Nelulu, provided insights into their operations and practical advice for first-time tenants.
Nelulu highlighted that Kalahari Holdings boasts a diverse investment portfolio, with a significant ownership stake of approximately 50% in MultiChoice, a renowned media company. While investments in various sectors contribute to their success, agriculture and property remain the primary focus of Kalahari Holdings.
Tips for renters
For those venturing into the rental market for the first time, Nelulu emphasised the importance of defining one's needs.
Aspiring tenants should carefully consider factors such as proximity to their workplace, transportation options, and preferred neighbourhood characteristics.
"The tips I would give for a first-time renter are to define your needs. Sometimes you do not really need that three-bedroom apartment. Do you have a car? How far is it from your workplace? Do you want to stay somewhere central? Do you need to stay somewhere central? Do you prefer a quiet neighbourhood or can you tolerate noise?"
Safety and security also emerged as crucial aspects to consider, with Nelulu cautioning against rental scammers who prey on unsuspecting newcomers.
She shared a personal experience, stating: "A niece of mine was recently scammed, and she was a new rentee. Some things are just too good to be true. If you see a stellar apartment in a fancy neighbourhood going for N$6 000 then be wary. And be cautious."
Know what you need
Nelulu emphasised the need to cater to the diverse needs of clients, providing accommodation options suitable for different demographics.
She highlighted the importance of safety, cleanliness and the structural integrity of the buildings, stating: "Your place should be clean, and you should invest in security. I believe safety should be a priority right now. So, it is safety, cleanliness, as well as the structure of the building."
Regarding the current rental offerings of Kalahari Holdings, Nelulu said: "We operate in both commercial and residential spaces. In the commercial sector, right now we have office space available on Robert Mugabe Avenue. On the residential side of things, we have Kalahari villas available in Windhoek, we have townhouses available in Omuthiya and a house available in Rundu."
She also said any new properties that become available are promptly marketed through the company's social media channels.
