Namibia-Kenya trade, investment conference in June
Windhoek will host the first Namibia-Kenya Trade and Investment Conference, which seeks to enhance partnerships between Namibia-Kenya business communities.
According to conference founder and co-convener, Elvis Mboya, the event is poised to attract over 200 business delegates from both countries.
It will take place at the NamPower Convention Centre in Windhoek from 29-30 June, followed by a voluntary tourism excursion from 1-4 June.
Confirmed keynote speakers are Lucia Iipumbu, the minister of industrialisation, trade and SME development, Kenya’s high commissioner to Namibia, Ambassador Michael Sialai, as well as representatives from the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB), Team Namibia, Kingdom Bank Kenya and Optiven Real Estate Kenya.
Targeted attendees are Namibians in Namibia, Kenyans in Kenya, Kenyans in Namibia, Namibians in Kenya, Namibia returnees from Kenya, and Kenya returnees from Namibia.
Topics
Conference topics include business opportunities in Kenya and Namibia (sectoral analysis), the business environment in Kenya and Namibia (regulatory framework), and strategies for having a presence in either Kenya or Namibia (different business models).
Other topics include: how to identify a potential business partner, how to package your business for readiness to engage in intra-Africa trade, and sources of business finance both in Kenya and Namibia.
The hybrid event was launched in Nairobi on 7 March, attended by 250 people from Kenya and Namibia.
History
According to Mboya, the idea was born in 2020, when he formed a WhatsApp group to connect Kenyan returnees from Namibia with their counterparts back in Namibia.
He later turned the forum into a business platform and opened it to all Namibians and Kenyans. Today, the forum hosts over 570 members of the business community from both Kenya and Namibia for selling, networking and matchmaking ahead of the upcoming conference.
Mboya lived and worked in Namibia for over ten years as a journalist, as well as at the Kenya High Commission in Windhoek, and was elected secretary general by Kenyans living in Namibia.
"All preparations are in place and we welcome all interested business people to attend," Mboya said, adding that: "Personally, this is a great opportunity to give back to Namibia, the country that I love and gave me so much."
