The Hifikepunye Pohamba campus of the University of Namibia (Unam) became a focal point for environmental action recently, all thanks to a successful clean-up campaign organised by the Save the Earth from A to Z (ASEZ) group.

This international student volunteer organisation, affiliated with the World Mission Society Church of God, has a global reach that includes Ongwediva.

For many students who took part in the campaign, like Arnold Matumona, participating was an eye-opening experience. Matumona shared his insights on the significance of the event, saying: "The important thing is to have a clean environment. Through this, I realised that when we have a good atmosphere, everyone will be happy."

Arnold highlighted the positive interactions he observed during the campaign. “When people were passing by, I could see their reactions,” he noted. “Most of the participants were students, and it was really nice to see us working together.”

This collective effort not only contributed to a cleaner campus but also fostered a sense of community among the students.

Inspiring

ASEZ’s mission goes beyond local initiatives, focusing on providing aid in the aftermath of natural disasters like earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, as well as addressing the impacts of conflicts and terrorism. The organisation places a strong emphasis on the role of young adults and university students in leading these global efforts.

Jimmy Shapopi, a lecturer at Ogongo campus and active ASEZ participant, shared the group's inspiring philosophy: "The motto of the student volunteer group is both profound and inspiring: ‘We have the power to change present despair into future hope and current frustration into future happiness. The power of one person is limited, but if we all work together to solve the problems that each campus faces, humanity’s hopeful future will soon become a reality.’"

The recent campaign at Hifikepunye Pohamba campus exemplifies ASEZ’s dedication to environmental improvement through collaborative action. The group's continuous efforts serve as a powerful example of how unity and perseverance can drive meaningful environmental progress.
