From security guard to NUST graduate

The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) celebrated its 17th graduation ceremony at Mercure Hotel in Windhoek recently, and while it was a momentous occasion, one story stood out among the 724 graduates: That of Abel Siseho Mubita, a security guard who transformed his life through education.



Mubita, employed by PIS Security Services, diligently safeguarded the NUST campus while pursuing his studies. On this momentous day, he received a bachelor of criminal justice degree in policing. “I always believed that my dream of obtaining a degree was possible, no matter how challenging the journey would be,” he shared, reflecting on his path to graduation.



NUST vice-chancellor Professor Erold Naomab recognised Mubita’s inspiring journey during his address. “While Mr Mubita’s story stands out, all of you graduates are perfectly positioned to take full advantage of Namibia’s emerging opportunities,” he said, emphasising the importance of education in shaping futures.



Mubita’s determination resonates deeply within the NUST community. “You’ve set the bar high, Mr Mubita — well done!” Naomab praised, highlighting the significance of his achievements as an example for others.
