Head boy corner

This year as head boy of Keetmanshoop Secondary School (KSS) has been an unforgettable journey of growth, learning and leadership. When I first took on this role, I knew it would come with its fair share of responsibilities, but I didn’t fully anticipate just how much I would evolve throughout the year. Leading my peers, working closely with teachers and being on the learner representative council has been both challenging and rewarding.

One of the most fulfilling parts of this role has been the opportunity to make a tangible impact on our school community. Whether it was organising events, addressing learner concerns or leading initiatives, each task allowed me to contribute to something greater than myself. I learnt that leadership isn’t just about making decisions - it’s about listening, understanding and working collaboratively to achieve common goals.

There were moments when the demands of this role felt overwhelming, especially when trying to balance it with academic and personal commitments. But these challenges taught me resilience, time management and the importance of relying on a strong support system. I realised that being a leader doesn’t mean doing everything alone; it means knowing when to seek help and how to empower others.

As I reflect on the year, I feel immense pride in what we’ve accomplished together as KSS. This role has helped me grow not just as a leader, but as a person. I am grateful for the trust my peers and teachers placed in me, and for the experiences that have shaped me in so many positive ways. As I pass the baton to the next head boy, I’m confident that our school will continue to thrive, and I’m excited to see what the future holds for us all.
