Honouring academic achievement with a prize-giving
Duneside High School held its annual prize-giving ceremony on 24 September in the school hall.
The ceremony is a cherished tradition that celebrates the hard work, achievements and dedication of learners. This year’s event was a particularly special occasion, honouring learners from grades 10 through 12 who have excelled academically.
The ceremony began with an inspiring speech by a guest of honour, who highlighted the importance of resilience, integrity and teamwork in achieving success. She encouraged learners to continue pushing boundaries and emphasised that every learner recognised at the ceremony had shown exceptional commitment to their studies and personal growth.
The prize-giving kicked off with awards for academic excellence. Grade 10 learners were applauded for outstanding performances in core subjects like mathematics, science and languages. The grade 11s then took the stage, where several were recognised for their accomplishments. Finally, the grade 12s received honours in their final year, setting a strong example for their peers with impressive overall academic achievements.
The highlight of the ceremony was the distribution of special awards, including the dux award, which is given to the best academic learner of 2024, and the fox award, which is given to the learner who has shown immense dedication over the many years they’ve been at the school.
The dux award was given to El-Shaddai Mugabe and the fox award was given to Sonia Nghilunanye, along with a sum of N$30 000, which will go to her tuition. These awards inspired younger learners to work hard, stay motivated and aim high in their own academic journeys.
The prize-giving ceremony closed with a final round of applause, leaving learners feeling proud and motivated. The event not only recognised hard work, but also fostered a culture of striving for excellence.
