IYF Namibia hosts youth dance camp
International Youth Fellowship (IYF) Namibia recently hosted a dance camp at the Namibia University of Science and Technology's main campus in Windhoek.
More than 80 young people attended, including both in- and out-of-school youths as well as high school learners and university students.
IYF Namibia provides a variety of youth programmes with the aim of fulfilling its goals of developing strong, moral and ethical mindsets among Namibian youth. The dance camp gave young people the chance to challenge themselves by learning a new dance, in contrast to its dream camp, which took place in May.
Attendees were able to showcase their hard work and advancement by performing the amazing dances they learnt. Aside from the dancing sessions, they had the chance to improve their mindsets through a series of lectures; make friends, and develop communication and teamwork skills through games and scavenger hunt competitions.
They also had the chance to enhance their interpersonal abilities through an Myers–Briggs type indicator
personality test.
International University of Management student Emma Nanguwo (22) said participating in the IYF dance camp was an exceptional decision.
"It brought forth a myriad of positive experiences and profound personal growth. I extend my deepest gratitude to the IYF dance camp for this transformative journey. It has not only been a source of immense joy, but has also equipped me with the resilience and positivity needed to conquer academic pursuits," she said.
"I am wholeheartedly thankful for this life-changing experience.”
Fenny Gideon, a 22-year-old student at Triumphant College, said “being a volunteer at the IYF dance camp has been really beneficial to me".
"I don’t believe confidence is something you can turn on and off. It’s about being active, and I couldn’t help but be active throughout the camp; working with individuals who rely on the services and assistance provided really pushes me. I believe that my volunteer experience with mind education training will help me grow.
"Working with people from various backgrounds has helped me develop my communication abilities. All of this has paid off because I can now claim I’m more experienced, and I’ve gained new friends who help and support each other," Gideon added.
