Making English easy for learners
Noordgrens Secondary School in Rundu has appointed a young English teacher after half a year without someone filling the role permanently. She is, so far, doing very well to pass on her knowledge to learners and make learning the subject easy for them.
Ndinaomwa Martin said she started teaching in 2016 at a school in Grootfontein, but she always dreamt of moving because the learners weren't attentive and hardly participated in class discussions. "Worst of it all, the school had no extracurricular activities," she said.
"As soon as I was granted the opportunity to join the staff at Noodgrens, I grabbed it. First of all, the Kavango East Region is one of the best performing regions in Namibia, and I needed a different and challenging environment,” she said.
In an interview, the teacher said at the beginning she was anxious due to the fact that she was relocating to a completely different place.
“My anticipation was extremely different from the outcomes. Here, learners make learning fun and as a teacher I just have the motivation to teach enthusiastic learners,” she said.
She added that she would advise every learner out there to seize every opportunity because some golden doors can only be visible during favourable seasons and this comes once in a lifetime.
Abigail Nsinano, a grade 10 learner at the school, expressed her gratitude towards the teacher, indicating that her favourite subject has become English since the new English teacher joined them.
“She is a very organised teacher and the room just feels productive to learn in when she is present. Her presence is appreciated,” she said.
