Nanso’s September competition ends in victory for Rev Juuso Shikongo SS

The Oshana National Students Organisation (Nanso) held a competition from 20 to 23 September at Ongwediva Junior Secondary School, featuring debates, spelling and public speaking.

Although several schools were invited, only ten managed to attend, including Gabriel Taapopi (GT), Mweshipandeka, Osheela, Mwadikange Kaulinge (MK), Rev Juuso Shikongo, Onegumbo, and others.

On the first day, the participating schools arrived at the Old Ongwediva ELCIN Centre, which was used as the campsite.

Immanuel Simoyoki, a learner from Mweshipandeka High School, said: "The campsite was well-maintained and had a peaceful atmosphere."



The opening ceremony was held on day two, with regional chairperson Maria Nuule delivering the keynote. remarks.

The competition then started with three rounds in each category. Winners of the rounds moved on to the quarter-finals.

Schools such as Mweshipandeka, Osheela, GT, Onegumbo, Rev Juuso Shikongo, Ongwediva Junior, MK, and Dr Abraham Iyambo advanced to the quarter-finals.

However, controversy arose when GT faced potential disqualification for using a member from the Oshana regional branch of Nanso, which was against the rules. No action was taken, leading to frustration among other schools.

One learner expressed disappointment, claiming: "Favouritism was obvious, letting GT continue was unprofessional."

Despite the controversy, GT lost to Rev Juuso Shikongo in the next round, and Mweshipandeka did not make it to the final four.

The final round saw Rev Juuso Shikongo and host school Ongwediva Junior face off, with Rev Juuso Shikongo from the Oshikoto region emerging as the winner.

Even after the awards ceremony, some schools remained upset, accusing GT of corruption.
