SAARMSTE conference heads to Namibia

Wetumwene Shikage
President of Southern African Association for Research in Mathematics, Science and Technology Education (SAARMSTE), Kenneth Ngcoza, announced that Namibia will host the 2024 SAARMSTE conference from 16 to 18 January 2024.

The announcement was made at a press conference in Windhoek.

The upcoming conference will be hosted by the International University of Management (IUM), in collaboration with the Namibia University of Science and Technology, (NUST), the University of Namibia (Unam), the ministry of education, art and culture and the ministry of higher education, technology and innovation.

Established in southern Africa, SAARMSTE caters to the entire world with various projects and initiatives. Under the theme 'rethinking relevant research in mathematics, science and technology education for the Fourth Industrial Revolution', the conference aims to create a learning environment where scholars can engage and exchange academic ideas. It is expected to increase networking opportunities and build relations for future collaboration and learning.

Ngcoza said about 400 to 450 delegates are expected to attend, but further encouraged Namibian education delegates in mathematics, science and technology to dominate the conference and engage with those from other countries.

Learners who would like to learn more about the field, students in the field and those looking to redirect their careers are encouraged to attend and add onto their knowledge.

“It is developmental. When you attend the conference, sharing of information can be done through the exchange of ideas and seeing others’ academic papers,” he said.

IUM founder and chairperson David Namwandi addressed stakeholders at the press conference, saying the conference will truly bring people together to learn and grow. “Unity is strength. Synergy is power,” he said.

IUM further expressed its excitement to work with delegates and Namibians to make the event a resounding success. Students and other academics may attend and present academic papers in the SAAMSTE fields.

Those interested to attend the conference can visit the SAARMATE website for more information.
