School unity celebrated at annual sports tournament

On 24 April, Noordgrens hosted its annual class tournament on its premises, featuring a vibrant series of thrilling matches.

The event highlighted the essence of school spirit and unity.

The competition featured soccer for boys and netball for girls, with both sports divided into primary and secondary pools. The primary pools included learners from grades four to seven, while the secondary pools consisted of learners from grades eight to 11, totalling four teams in each sport.

The tournament followed a knockout format, where teams faced elimination upon losing a match. In the primary soccer pool, the grade seven learners emerged victorious, while the grade 11 learners claimed the top spot in the secondary pool. Both winning teams were awarded prizes at the end of the tournament.

Additionally, individual awards were given to standout performers, including the best goalkeeper, top goalscorer and most valuable player.

The netball tournament followed a similar knockout structure. In the primary pool, the grade five learners took first place, while the grade 10 learners triumphed in the secondary pool. Just like in soccer, the winners and top performers were recognised with prizes.

Engaging experience

Reflecting on the experience, netball participant Elina Hausiku shared, "It was a fantastic experience and I enjoyed every second. I discovered that I’m a good netball player, and I can’t wait for the next tournament." Soccer participant Ryan Swartbooi said: "Playing with my friends was really fun and I enjoyed it very much. I learned to respect my teammates and to be kind and disciplined in a team."

The class tournament proved to be a memorable and engaging event, showcasing the spirit and talent of the learners.
