Taking up space in computer science

Judith Kapofi
My name is Judith Kapofi, and I am a first-year computer science student at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust). I chose this course because I am a tech enthusiast, so I will enjoy the course.

I have always been interested in learning about the latest digital transformations, whether it is the latest iPhone or MacBook releases or a much-modernised car. I would always do research and see what I could learn from it, and that ignited the computer science bug in me.

This industry is very much male-dominated, so I want to be one of the few female trailblazers in the industry; however, this comes with a lot of hard work and dedication. I just started my university experience, so there is not much to tell now. However, I can say that I am not such a fan of the very early 07:30 classes as they are just too early at times, and I feel they will be a drag for the rest of the year.

Hard work required

I aspire to be great in my course and hopefully walk away with a cum laude degree one day. That way, I know I am a step closer to being the trailblazer I aspire to be. Additionally, I am excited to finally get into university. It is a jungle, as so many people say, as you often have to fend for yourself and ensure that you have prepared yourself for your day-to-day tasks.

I always look into what I have learned throughout the day and revise it to make my work easier in preparation for exams and tests, so I think I am off to a great start using methods that are not at all foreign to me.

I would advise that learners do not allow pressure from individuals to influence their decision about what to study.
