Do you agree that the high rate of unemployed graduates warrants a state of emergency?

I don’t agree, because we have a lot of unemployment in our country in general, and declaring a state of emergency only for the graduates who are unemployed is not correct. If a state of emergency is declared, it should not only be for unemployed graduates, but it should be for all unemployed people in the country.

It should be declared a state of emergency because the unemployment rate in Namibia is increasing, and more young people are graduating that the government cannot cater for. The ever-increasing youth unemployment rate has caused many social problems such as alcohol abuse, deterioration in mental health, suicide and crime.

As a student who is looking forward to graduating, I think that this is fair and because most of the graduates do not have jobs, they still owe a lot of money for their studies. The youth are the working force of the country and their unemployment rate is more than twice that of older citizens.

I totally disagree with it, because I want graduates to stop exercising the right of relaxing in their comfort zone and expecting the government to provide opportunities for them. It is high time we look at the needs and services that need to be provided to the country in order to be self-reliant.

I agree because that way it will help them to be innovative, so the government should try to give them a subsidy to try to come up with business ideas. They should create employment opportunities for graduates in order to increase the country’s GDP.

In my opinion, it is a very good question because even though we have a low population in Namibia, our economic status and availability of opportunities do not accommodate the high number of graduates and that will directly result in the graduates not getting jobs once they leave university.
