My Zone chatted with the Youth Orchestra of Namibia (Yona) musicians to find out how they are preparing for their concert on 23 and 24 July, what instrument they will be playing, and who inspires them.



Melgiva Gaeses (15)

I'll be playing the triangle and drums. I am very enthusiastic about the concert because I have been anticipating it for quite some time. Orchestra musicians who perform at a professional level inspire me.



Samantha /Uirab (12)

I'll be using the tambourine, woodblock and maraca. My teacher, Miss Henrieteh, inspired me to learn to play instruments and prepare to perform on stage.



Evangeline Haikela (13)

I'll be playing the violin. For practice, I start with my D-major talent and then move on to my C-major and A-major, as this helps me with finger placement. My teacher, Miss Sussanne, is my motivation.



Maano Hasheela (13)

I'm a violinist. I'm definitely looking forward to the forthcoming concert at the National Theatre of Namibia. When I practice, I usually focus on my fingers and check to see whether I'm in tune. I practice finger exercises, wrist positions and holding the bow.

Carlos Florian (15)

I'll be playing the drums. Mr Osmond inspires me. I'm really enjoying the practices every day until 21:00. It's a lot of fun and enjoyment since we get to meet individuals from various towns and make more contacts with musicians.
