Petrus Simaneka Shigwedha is eager to contribute to his team\'s success through hard work, attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
He works as a sales adviser and finance consultant at Old Mutual. Holding an advanced diploma in banking, finance and credit with the Institution of Bankers in Namibia, his journey at the organisation began in 2019.
He aims to further work his way up the corporate ladder.
Shigwedha believes that challenges are part of life, adding that dealing with people from different backgrounds and having money involved is a challenge within this role.
He gains more knowledge on customised financial plans and provides guidance on insurance, investments, retirement and savings for clients. Additionally, he is responsible for: Assessing client financial situations, informing clients on how life changes may affect their financial plans and selling financial products.
He further enjoys the ability to build trust and maintain strong relationships with clients. The ability to work as an individual contributor and as part of a team is encouraging to him. He enjoys having outstanding problem-solving, investing risk and analytical skills as well as proficiency in math and financial literacy.
Why this career?
Shigwedha said he loves this career because he gets lots of job satisfaction from helping clients and responding to their financial needs while interacting with people.
“I\'m happy when I can help clients confidently pursue their short- and long-term goals and worry less about their finances. Ultimately, helping clients work toward their financial independence enables me to work toward my career goals and feel satisfied and accomplished each day.
\"And if I thrive in one thing in life, it is relationship-building. I already have an extensive network of connections with people I know in person, people who enjoy meeting me from time to time,” he said.
Some of the challenges in his job include high-stress levels, hard work to build a client base and the ongoing need to meet regulatory requirements.
Shigwedha said his long-term goals include growing with a company where he can continue to learn, take on additional responsibilities, and contribute as much value as possible to the team he works with.
Success through balance
He highlighted that he sets goals with steps that are achievable but challenging. He knows he is growing and working towards his end goal of moving up within the company when he reaches the goals he set for himself.
“My career is very important to me and I believe to do well in my career, I need a good work-life balance. If am able to work flexibly and excel in my work tasks, while having time to be present with my family, I consider that success,” he said.
Shigwedha added that his job is centred on the needs of individuals to help them with decisions on investments and insurance and helping clients plan for short- and long-term goals, such as budgeting.
