Risto Kandele, the creator of the 'Namibian Culture Colouring Book', believes that providing young Namibians access to art, education, and cultural awareness in a fun and participatory colouring activity helps them to study and appreciate their own culture as well as the cultures of other Namibian tribes.
Risto Kandele is a young man who noticed, through extensive research, that Namibians, particularly the young, lack cultural understanding. Recognising this gap, he saw an opportunity to capitalise on and reestablish the value of cultural heritage preservation.
Kandele designed a culture colouring book, ‘Namibian Culture Colouring Book’, that uses colouring to teach Namibian children about their own culture or the cultures of other Namibian tribes. The book includes all of Namibia's tribes, with content centred on traditional clothes, meals, drinks and customs.
Creative, engaging tools
Each page contains a written section that describes the scene on the page, with cultural artefacts identified in that respective tribe's language. Furthermore, there is a brief mini-exercise at the end of the book to test a child's knowledge.

"Despite the fact that it is very difficult but can be rewarding if it succeeds (revenue, job creation and tax revenue to the government), always remain positive and have a long-term plan," he stressed.
