CcHub Namibia’s communication steward aims for a brighter Africa

Kina Indongo is a communications professional with over five years of corporate communications and public relations experience. Her dynamic expertise is complemented by an honours degree from the University of Namibia (Unam), where she double majored in public relations and English studies.

Being the Windhoek hub’s vice curator of the 2023/24 World Economic Forum Global Shapers initiative, Indongo is a beacon of hope and change. She is deeply committed to addressing the issue of youth unemployment by actively working to create opportunities for skill development and capacity building.



Roles and responsibilities

Indongo currently serves as a communications account manager for Co-creation Hub (CcHub), which has a footprint in Namibia, Nigeria, Kenya and Rwanda. She thus plays a key role in facilitating cross-continental communication, covering a wide range of topics including civic engagement, cyber security and the EdTech industry.

She is the liaison person across offices, countries and industries, ensuring the seamless media coverage of programmes aimed at promoting innovation throughout the African continent.

“In addition to helping me create opportunities for youth in Africa, CcHub has enriched my understanding of the benefits of diversity and inclusivity in the workplace,” Indongo said.

She is one of the few individuals to be selected for the 2023 Mandela Washington Fellowship cohort under the Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) – the United States' signature effort to invest in the next generation of African leaders.

Indogo’s community leadership history led to her placement in the civic engagement track at the Florida Gulf Coast University.

Here, she got to engage with dynamic young leaders from 22 African countries.

“They were like-minded fellows who expanded my network, providing connections across Africa and the United States of America. This opportunity gave me a platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange, consequently strengthening my leadership skills.”



Reskilling Africans for a brighter future

Indongo has always been aware of her inherent desire to tell “genuinely important stories". It was why she ventured into communications. Utilising the digital world, she takes charge of the narrative surrounding Africa and its people, ensuring that it reflects the continent's true essence.

Her goals and inspiration are deeply rooted in her late father’s legacy. His selfless act of dedicating his life’s work to his countrymen, first by fighting for liberation and later being a medical doctor, left an indelible mark on her, she said. It was this that instilled in her a deep sense of commitment to reskilling Africans for a brighter future.

“The African population has approximately 60% young individuals who are grappling with escalating unemployment. I want to be an active force towards a change that would improve the quality of their lives,” Indongo said.

As is the case with young professionals, she has had her fair share of hurdles. She thus advises the youth to pick and pursue goals that truly excite them. They should, in turn, be mindful to not bite off more than they can chew.

“Trust the process and don’t let slow progress demotivate you. Success is attainable when it's driven by genuine passion.”
