Efraim Vilho is dedicated to driving technological advancement in Africa's rising tech ecosystem.

The highly accomplished tech professional serves as the community manager for Co-creation Hub (CcHub) Namibia. He has had a remarkable career spanning over six years, including three years dedicated to the digital transformation and start-up ecosystem. He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science with a specialisation in cybersecurity, and an honours degree in digital forensics, where he graduated cum laude.

The year 2022 saw Vilho play a pivotal role as a member of the online jury for the World Summit Awards, where he contributed significantly to recognising and promoting innovative start-ups on a global scale. His dedication to fostering innovation and technology is evident in his role at CcHub Namibia, a prestigious pan-African organisation dedicated to advancing the utilisation of technology and innovation for the betterment of the African continent.



Aspiration and impetus

Vilho’s deep-rooted passion for community work was the impetus that spurred him into social capital and technology with CcHub Namibia. He admitted that he finds immense joy and satisfaction in making a positive impact on the lives of others and the community at large.

“What truly inspires me and keeps me going is my vision of Africa becoming a leading continent in technology. The African continent and its youth have the potential to create a platform for serendipity, especially around technology.

“Witnessing the transformative power of technology on the continent is the main dream that fuels my dedication to my work. I aspire to contribute to creating an ecosystem where innovation and technology-driven solutions propel Africa to the forefront of global technological advancement," he said.



Navigating challenges and roles

As a community manager for CcHub Namibia, Vilho’s role is a dynamic one that revolves around nurturing a thriving innovation ecosystem. His primary responsibilities include fostering community and engagement and cultivating a supportive environment for start-ups and innovators with guidance and resources to transform their ideas into successful ventures.

He plays a pivotal role in connecting various stakeholders within the local tech ecosystem, promoting collaboration and facilitating knowledge exchange.

“Our team’s mission is to ensure that CcHub Namibia serves as a catalyst for innovation, driving economic growth and technological advancement in the region.”

On the hurdles they have encountered on this journey, he said there are several challenges that are intrinsic to creating a vibrant innovation ecosystem. He underscored the ever-evolving nature of technology and the need to stay updated with the latest trends and tools to provide relevant support to their community members.

To combat this, he continually engages in capacity development, attends industry events and makes sure to keep growing his network of experts.

“Networking is not just a buzzword; it's a powerful tool for career advancement.”

He also pointed out that balancing the different needs and expectations of the community can be complex. He thus fosters open communication channels, actively listens to feedback and tailors their resources and programmes to address specific community needs.

“It is very important to understand the needs of your community.”



Words of wisdom

Vilho advised aspiring young professionals in the tech industry to approach their various roles with a genuine passion and personal commitment that transcends the idea of it being “just a job".

He said this passion and personal connection will not only sustain them, but also inspire their close circle, ultimately leading to the success and growth of the community they serve. He dared them to be proactive and embrace fearlessness, as it is paramount to their growth and success.

“Build valuable connections, seek mentorship and glean wisdom from those who've trodden your path. Keep in mind that challenges and obstacles serve as stepping stones for personal and professional growth. It's in overcoming these hurdles that you unveil your full potential.

"Embrace the uncharted, pursue your aspirations and tackle the challenges that sculpt your journey towards success!”
