Young, motivated and hardworking
Focusing on growth
Jeremia Namalenga is the newly appointed public relations officer at the ministry of labour, industrial relations and employment creation.
With eight years of professional experience under his belt, Jeremia Namalenga says professional growth is of paramount importance.
"As a young professional, it is highly important to ensure that you grow in all aspects, and sometimes this might mean a change in your working environment," Namalenga said.
The change he wishes to bring to his new role at the ministry is to enhance the engagement between the ministry and the public.
He believes this will build trust and confidence between the ministry and the public.
Overcoming speed bumps
But every goal comes with its own set of difficulties, and Namalenga's is striking a work-life balance.
He said that as the workload mounts, it is sometimes challenging to juggle work and his personal life.
"This often leaves me fatigued and stressed," he said.
He overcomes these challenges by careful planning, as it allows him to focus on specific tasks.
Highlights
Career highlights include working with his team at the Office of the Judiciary and successfully executing a "virtual opening of the legal year 2022," as well as coordinating and facilitating live public interviews for the appointment of the Ombudsman in 2021.
In preparation for his new role, he said: "Seeing that I am no stranger to the public relations field, I managed to maintain and enhance the basic skills to ensure that I am up to the task. I had to acquaint myself with the ministry’s mandate and core values. This helped me a great deal as I had a clear picture of what the ministry’s objectives are," he said.
His goal is to become a highly sought after public relations and communications professional over the next five years.
His words of encouragement to young people are: "Everything and anything is possible as long as you believe in yourself. Do not feel discouraged, keep on persevering until you reach your goals. The road is never a straight one, but every speed bump and pothole encountered will mould you into a force to be reckoned with."
