The moment you wake up you are within the law. An Arbitrator is a third party who facilitates conflicts between employers and employees or unions and employers during legal proceedings is called arbitrations. Conflicts are resolved outside of the court systems by mutual consent of the parties involved.

“Arbitrators at the office of labour commissioner is to resolve labour disputes and issue an arbitration award, which is equal to court judgement and provide records of the arbitration hearing,” Henri Kassen, an Arbitrator says. He further says an award is evidence that the dispute has been resolved.

An arbitrator advices stakeholders, employees, employers and individuals about rules, law and policies concerning the labour dispute resolutions which is the focus.

As an arbitrator you are also required to do legal research before they give an award, you just don’t write an award, you have someone’s productive future in your hands. “You are required to make intensive study before you make decisions regarding the person’s life”

When a case is reported the labour commissioner allocates the arbitrator, date, time and place and within 14 days they he or she meets with the parties and thereafter, within 14 days the parties are given time to prepare themselves to get relevant documents before the hearing with the arbitrator.

To be employed as an arbitrator you should have the following qualifications level seven with a Bachelor degree in labour law. You should be employed in the industry with at least three years of experience. The Minster of labour appoints full-time and part-time arbitrators.
