Canyon Village: Owned & managed by Gondwana
Quiver trees, Nama culture, rugged landscape and impressive rock formations characterize Canyon Village, situated in the south of Namibia.
The history of southern Namibia is depicted in murals on the restaurant's wall and a colourful and lively rendition of life in the golden time of the missions, graces the wall in the reception area.
Staff members take pride in wearing their traditional patchwork dress and headdresses of the Nama folk, introducing the spirit of the south including its people - the Nama were one of the first people in Southern Africa. These people have a knack for story-telling and have lovingly woven song and dance into their traditions.
These homely touches bring warmth and intrigue to a lodge which is an ideal base to explore the Fish River Canyon, Namibia's star attraction, twenty kilometres away.

The well-maintained solar energy plant, situated behind the lodge, is generating more than enough energy for its own needs and in addition, regularly feeds electricity back into the national grid!

During a recent sustainability assessment by Eco Awards Namibia, Canyon Village scored well - achieving top marks in many of the criteria as well as achieving 100% for its energy innovativeness! This outstanding assessment achievement, qualified the Village to be selected as a finalist in the 2020 Responsible Tourism Awards.
Another round of intensive selection interviews followed, where nominated management staff were interviewed and tested on their experience with- and knowledge of harvesting and utilizing alternative energy, which is also the theme of this year’s Tourism Expo. All of the finalists were champions in their own right and the competition was tough, so Gondwana’s Canyon Village deserves the title of Responsible Tourism Awards winner for 2020!
