‘Cause it’s a beautiful night…’

Of course, the ten couples participating in this year’s edition of Republikein’s Bridal Couple of the Year Competition already got hitched many months ago.

Still, there is nothing that quite lifts the spirits like a wedding (and of course some wonderful dancing tunes!) and this year, after months of waiting in anticipation and a few delays due to Covid-19 in hosting the final in this popular competition, it’s finally taking place at the Namibia Tourism Expo on Saturday, 7 November.

Now in its 9th year, Republikein’s competition received more than 120 entries this year of couples that tied the knot in the preceding year.

By the time the country went into lockdown, the top 30 had just been announced and the public had the chance to vote for their favourite 10. Once the finalist couples had been determined, each of the ten couples had to prepare the organisers a short video of their lives in lockdown. Much fun was had by all!

To continue with the momentum, the couples have had to prepare a second video – this time the challenge was preparing an egg, and the state of the kitchen after their work was done.

But this is just for fun, because the heavy duty choices rest on the shoulders of the judges at the final.

According to organiser Gerine Hoff, “the whole journey is an amazing experience: From sharing in all the entrants’ beautiful love stories to the finalists who get the chance to wear their wedding attire again to re-experience the magic of their special day – hopefully just with less stress!”

This year the prizes amount to around N$ 200 000, with the first prize being flights to Germany. However, all finalist couples will be going home with something special to remind them of their participation.

This year’s finalist couples are Cameron and Priscilla Pieterse, Casper and Natasha Esterhuizen, Conroy and Tania Goliath, Gerswen and Ezanne Mouton, Jan and Chantel Neethling, Joel and Rebecca Eelu, Justin and Ruweide Julius, Levingston and Sharon Izaaks, Nico and Renette Scholtz, and Roger and Genene Bougard.

The final takes place on Saturday 7 November at 16:00 at the Namibia Tourism Expo. If you can’t be there to join in the fun live, be sure to tune into Republikein’s Facebook page.
