Fork ‘n Nice food

“Waar is my chippies”, says Bill Ackermann while wrapping a fried fish. His voice is stern. “Coming right away”, sounds the answer from the back of the modified, old school bus. On top of the vehicle is an old surf board reading “Fork ‘n Nice”. The bus has been converted into a food truck and serves hungry customers for the past five years. Amongst locals Fork ‘ n Nice located in Swakopmund along the beach is simply called the yellow bus - and it has become somewhat of a Trademark. “What is our secret?”, asks Bill's wife Maggi and looks around. “It’s quite simple actually. Fresh food and consistency.” Fork ‘ n Nice is known for its calamari, fried fish, chicken strips and the pulled pork sandwiches. “Some of our regular customers visit us even twice a day”, Maggi chuckles. “I guess they also come just for a good conversation”, Bill chimes in.

Fachwerk goes mobile
Fackwerk Mobil or Streat byte - is the new kid on the block. The mobile food truck is mainly found across from Fruit 'n Veg in town and first opened its doors a few months ago. But you will likely see this food truck at some upcoming event. “Our special offer is determined by the location where we serve”, says Lutz Feddersen, who actually has three food trucks. Lutz is better known as the face of the Fachwerk Biergarten in town, where good ol’ German food is served. “After COVID-19 hit, we ventured into the mobile business to keep the restaurant afloat”, he says. His wife Maria has in turn become the face of Fachwerk Mobil, which is especially known for its burgers. “We already have our regulars, who come just for that hamburger. They just love it”, she smiles. You can also find a streat byte food truck in Windhoek (Obeco) and soon one at Wilhelmstal.

Coffee for early birds
For Heidi Garbade COVID-19 was a curse - and a blessing. “I always wanted to run a trailer serving fresh coffee”, she says. Over the past months she has become the face of the Slowtown Coffee Caravan, located at Woermann&Brock Hardware. As the name Early Birds’ Coffee suggests, happy customers can already enjoy their first cup of coffee from 6 a.m. Garbade is actually a qualified barista and is known for the training she offers. Early Bird’s Coffee serves anything and everything when it comes to a good cup of coffee. Most popular is the cappuccino. Hungry customers can also grab a fresh sandwich, belegtes Brötchen or a freshly backed cinnamon bun. “Our specialties include iced lattes and mochaccinos”, she says.
