Eskorte abgeschafft

Windhoek - Seit dem 1. Juni haben die namibischen Streifkräfte die militärischen Eskorten von Bagani und Kongolo auf dem Caprivi Fernstraße eingestellt.

Es ist nicht mehr nötig, dass private Fahrzeuge in Begleitung von bewaffneten Soldaten die Strecke zurücklegten, da sich die Situation in Angola geändert habe, hieß es in einer Presseerklärung. "Die Sicherheitslage im Nordosten Namibias sei wieder normal, nachdem ein Waffenstillstand zwischen der angolanischen Regierung und der Unita unterschrieben wurde", heißt es in der Erklärung. Autofahrer sollten als Vorsichtsmaßnahme jedoch nur zwischen 07.00 Uhr und 17.00 Uhr die Strecke benutzen und nicht in der Nacht dort fahren. Sämtliche weiteren Sicherheitsmaßnahmen bleiben vorerst in Kraft, um die Sicherheit der Autofahrer zu gewährleisten.
