Arandis - Der Staatssekretär des Innenministeriums, Erastus Negonga, stattete gestern dem Bürgermeister der Stadt Arandis, Thomas Kaimbi, einen Besuch ab.

Der Bürgermeister erklärte dem Staatssekretär seine bisherigen Bemühungen, die Stadt - bei möglicher Schließung von Rössing Uranium Ltd - nicht zur Geisterstadt werden zu lassen und bat um finanzielle Unterstützung, da Mittel zur Weiterentwicklung fehlen. "Jährlich verloert Arandis 9,2 Millionen Namibia-Dollar", sagte er, "die Einwohner spendieren ihr Geld an der Küste, weil es hier nicht genügend Möglichkeiten gibt".

"Es ist enttäuschend zu hören, dass eine recht reiche Kommune ihr Geld nicht in ihre eigene Stadt investiert", so Negonga und setzte die Priorität, mehr Eigeninitiative von den Bürgern zu fordern.
