Picturing the future

Visualization magnetizes and attracts the people, resources and opportunities you need to achieve your goal.
Henriette Lamprecht
Henriette Lamprecht – It is one of the most valuable visualisation tools available. The inspirational collages serve as your unique image of the future – a tangible example, idea or representation of your dreams, your goals and your ideal life.

To visualise something means to create a mental image of it, explains Suzy Seha who guides people to use a vision board to create their dreams and desires in a tangible way.

Ideally you create an actual poster with cut out images glued onto the poster board, she explains.

“In this modern age people however like to create a vision board online, but there is something about creating the actual board that connects you more to the outcome through the process.”

The purpose of a vision board is to get a clear vision of where you would like to be in your life and to bring those ideas into a visual form, says Suzy.

It is not just some random pictures stuck on a page.

“In order for your vision board to really work, you need to feel it, see it and embody it.”

To start the process, you need a clear vision of what you want. Sit and breathe while you visualise your ideal future. It is also a good idea to sit down and write a list of ideals and goals relating to the vision board you are about to start.

“Without watering it down, ask yourself ‘where you would like to be, what you would like to achieve and accomplish?’ Feel the essence of your dreams and goals – this is an important step in the process. What feeling arises within you?”

You will need a poster board, scissors, glue and a pile of magazines and pictures. You could also have a cork board and some pins rather than using poster board and glue.

Flip though the pictures and magazines and cut out the pictures and words that embodies your goals and dreams and represent your goals.

Paste them onto you poster board and build a collage of words and pictures that represent your goals and dreams.

“It is not a photographic representation of the exact things you want, but creates a feeling and reflects the essence of goals, dreams and your ideal future.

The vision board can apart from pictures also include words and colours, anything that invokes the feeling you get when you think of living your ideal life, explains Suzy.

Use only the words and images that best represent your purpose and your ideal future, including words that inspire positive emotions in you.

“Your board shouldn’t just focus on ‘stuff’ but on the feeling that the ‘stuff’ would bring to you such as being loved, peace, happiness, success, direction, personal power and so on.”

According to Suzy you can use a different vision board for specific goals and dreams across all areas of your life or alternatively make a general one that covers all areas of your life.

“If you are creating a specific lifestyle you could do a vision board for that or one for a business venture, work situation or family.”

By representing your goals with pictures and images that ignite the feeling you associate with your ideal life, Suzy explains.

“You will actually strengthen and stimulate those emotions because your mind responds strongly to visual stimulation.”

Put your vision board somewhere you can see it every day. Seeing and feeling the essence of your goals activates your subconscious mind and programs your brain to notice available resources that were always there but escaped your notice.
