The Inherent Value of Waste
Sustainable tourism is at the forefront of travel and accommodation offers in Namibia. Finding creative ways of reducing and recycling waste has never been more important. We are always on the lookout for initiatives that are leading the charge in this arena. African Monarch’s Sijwa Project is one to keep an eye on. Making use of the waste products from their two lodges in the North-East of Namibia, Sijwa sets out to repurpose waste by turning it into craft – recycled aluminum cans are cast into jugs and glass bottles are ground down and blown into stylish beads. Sijwa is visionary in their approach to conservation and community engagement.
