Tourist of the Year-2020

Thankfully the lockdown period is over and it would seem as though the hot Namibian weather is able to keep COVID-19 at bay by allowing us to remain healthy - for the moment at least.

It does not change the fact that we will have to observe health protocols and be aware of the risks associated with this pandemic, but as pointed out before, COVID-19 has taught us to think differently and do things differently. Tourismus Namibia has always been able to adjust as we do things different anyway!

As you would know from previous editions of this magazine, we have launched the new idea of finding a Tourist of the Year. Designed to promote local tourism, this competition is designed such, as to allow you to join our competitors on their tours and excursions. As part of the project “Namibia, my Gem”, we have been fortunate in securing five sponsors, who are hosting our competitors during this month of October: Gondwana Namibia Collection, Journeys Namibia, N/a'an ku sê, Namibia Wildlife Resorts and O&L Leisure.

They will record their experiences from planning to packing to travelling, with the latter being made possible by another great sponsor, Vivo Energy, the provider of quality Shell fuel products. The idea is obviously to make us part of their experiences, which will be broadcast on the Tourismus Namibia internet page and its Facebook site.

Visitors of this year’s Tourism Expo Namibia will elect the “Tourist of the Year-2020”. The NTE-2020 will be held from the 4th to the 7th of November 2020 on the grounds of the Sport Club Windhoek (SKW) and visitors will apart from experiencing live interaction with the exhibitors’ establishments also be able to watch the recorded experiences of these five candidates: Heike Gebauer, Sulet Gous, Tina Haulyondjama, Helvi Nestor and Klaus Rennack. All of them are winners, but in less than a month they will know, who among them will walk away with the grand prize.
