Where true adventure begins

Khowarib Lodge and Safaris is in the heart of the remote north west of Namibia as is its sister establishment Kunene Tours & Safaris. The Lodge is situated on the banks of the Hoanib River running through these parts of the country. Desert elephant- and rhino tracking excursions are a speciality of Khowarib Lodge. With twelve en-suite canvas chalets available in either twin or double sleeping arrangements, three slightly larger family chalets and the so-called “kliphuis”, visitors are ensured of an authentic stay.

All chalets have power and adapters are made available to foreign visitors. The chalets are also equipped with a coffee station and mini-fridge for the visitor. The outstanding feature of the Lodge is that the chalets have been constructed such manner as not to disrupt the natural surrounding, which is covered by Mopani trees. This has led to every site featuring a unique terrace which overlooks the Hoanib River and allows a view of the beautiful cliffs opposite, something you may enjoy even from the unique open air bathroom facilities.

The restaurant offers a three-course, set menu for dinner, prepared with exquisite care, assuring you of a delight taste under the usually clear and star-studded sky.

For breakfast the visitor may opt for a continental breakfast or choose from the buffet, which includes a choice of fruit, cereal, fresh home-baked bread and fillings, or a menu of bacon and eggs as well as assorted omelettes. A small lunch-menu is available - even for the passer-by.

IT’S AN EXPERIENCE

Actvites at Khowarib Lodge have been chosen and carefully planned to suit everyone’s needs. These activities include a Desert Elephant Experience, Rhino Tracking in a 4x4 vehicle, Rock-Art Excursions, “Meet the Himba” as well as guided nature walks for those guests, who are ardent birders. Sun-downer trips can also be arranged.

Khowarib Lodge has a beautifully placed swimming pool to cool down or simply relax and collect some much needed vitamin D from the sun. Pool towels are kept at the bar, from where drinks can be ordered and enjoyed in the pool area.

The area has much to offer, among which is a warm water spring in a beautiful setting, which feature the Ongongo Falls. This spring offers a natural swimming experience and trips to this site can either be done as a self-drive trip or possibly a pre-arranged trip organised by the lodge.

Apart from the above setting, the lodge also offers a campsite with ten seperate pitches, which are connected to the power grid and offer access to a communal ablution block with hot water showers. Each camp site thus has its own light, tap and wash-up area as well as a shade port, maintained barbeque facility and own rubbish bin. Camping guests have full access to all lodge facilities (including laundry) and are welcomed at the bar, restaurant, swimming pool and curio shop. Campers who would like to enjoy dinner at the lodge are required to pre-book their dinner before 16h00 and is subject to availability.
