African Genesis Archery (AGA) Namibia’s annual ranking shoot at Elnatan Private School in Stampriet last weekend, saw archers contest their marksmanship for crucial ranking points.y

The tenth edition of the ranking shoot, and penultimate for the year, was hosted at Elanatan after a successful competition at Mariental’s Danie Joubert Combined School in August.

Organisers explained that it was very windy and sunny during the day of the competition, which made scoring 50 points in such tough conditions a challenge for the archers.

However, the archers were resilient and demonstrated their strength and skill as best as they could, making the event a great success.

Bull’s Eye Round (max 900 score)

In the Senior Girls category, Teresa Kasomba from Community Hope School dominated the round with a score of 856 to secure the gold medal. Her schoolmate, Lee-Ann Job, claimed a silver medal in second place (820), alongside bronze winner Taylieschen Scott from WHS (816).

Meanwhile, Ru-Wayne Bezuidenhout (WAP) emerged as the overall Senior Boys winner with 858, closely followed by Oliver Rothkegel (Central Elite Archery Club, 850) and Duan Kruger of Roots Gymnasium (843).

In the Junior Girls category, Talitha Garises (Community Hope School) triumphed with 747, narrowly beating Danie Joubert Combined School’s Jaylin de Koe (741) and Avihe Herunga (734).

Willem van der Merwe from Central Elite Archery Club claimed first place in the Junior Boys category with 858, followed by Alejandro Beukes from Danie Joubert Combined School (817) and Community Hope School’s Stanford Pieterson (787).

Animal Round (max 300)

In the Senior Girls category, Teresa Kasomba once again topped the list with 281, finishing ahead of Jorine Krugel from Roots Gymnasium (275) and Taylieschen Scott (268).

Among the Senior Boys, Roots Gymnasium’s Duan Kruger reigned supreme with 285, followed by Oliver Rothkegel (284) and Ru-Wayne Bezuidenhout (275).

In the Junior Girls category, Talitha Garises continued her dominance, securing first place with 250. Avihe Herunga from Danie Joubert Combined School finished in second place with 237, followed by Community Hope School’s Kadisha Araes (235).

In the Junior Boys competition, Willem van der Merwe (284) claimed the top spot once again, seconded by Elnatan’s Johannes van Wyk (262) and Stanford Pieterson (260).

Bull’s Eye and Animal Round (max 1200)

The Senior Girls combined results saw Teresa Kasomba crowned overall champion with a total of 1137, alongside first runner-up Lee-Ann Job (1087) and second runner-up Jorine Kruger (1087).

Talitha Garises was crowned the Junior Girls champion with 997, followed by Avihe Herunga (971) and Jaylin de Khoe (948).

In the combined Senior Boys category, Oliver Rothkegel was crowned champion with 1134, followed by Ru-Wayne Bezuidenhout (1133) and Duan Kruger (1128)

Meanwhile, Willem Jacobus van der Merwe was the Junior Boys champion with 1142, followed by Alejandro Beukes (1049) and Stanford Pieterson (1047).

AAG section (max 900)

In the Adult Archery Generation (AAG) women’s section, the overall combined title of 3D and Bull’s Eye was awarded to Anja von Watzdorf with 844, alongside AAG men’s winner Paul van der Merwe (833).

Elnatan's Carine Kruger, the competition organiser, highlighted the event, noting that the strong north-easterly wind at the start didn’t disrupt the archers too much.

“As the day went on, everyone adapted to the wind, and by the final Bulls-eye rounds, the shooters were consistently hitting scores in the 50s again,” she said.

She also extended her congratulations to the medal winners. “Thank you to everyone who participated. It was a wonderful day spent with the AGA family.”
