The first event of the Namibia Gymnastics Federation’s (NGF) second national qualifying event for women's and men’s artistic gymnastics (abbreviated WAG or MAG by insiders) concluded on Friday at the Crete Gymnastics Club at Maerua Mall.

The event’s results were crucial for gymnasts in various categories, including the International Development Programme, Level 7, High Performance 3, Junior Olympic and Senior Olympic Levels, as it determined their eligibility for the upcoming national competition in October.

Among the participants in the female section, Jané Strauss competed in Level 7, scoring 6.6, while Ngai Handura, also in Level 7, scored 6.5.

Mila Barnard, competing at High Performance 3, achieved a score of 8.2 while Aryanna Silver Moodley, in the International Development Programme, scored 9.1.

Sureshni Andrew, competing at the Junior Olympic level, earned a score of 6.9, while Alla Thorburn, representing the Senior Olympic level, scored 4.8.

James Milne Cindano, a specialist Senior Olympic-level gymnast, secured the highest score of the event with a 10.4.

Crete Gymnastics owner and coach, Petra Thorburn, said the qualifying event went well. “It went better than the previous qualifying event. The gymnasts have shown improvement and are looking forward to the nationals.”

The second national artistic qualifying event, to be hosted by Walvis Bay Gymnastics Club this weekend, will include the female section for Levels 1 to HP2 and male section for Levels 1 to 8.
