DSFA tourney to drive player development

Raise awareness about the pitfalls of gender-based violence and other toxic influences is a theme of the weekend.
This year’s annual DS Football Academy (DSFA) tournament will promote youth development and raise awareness about gender-based violence.
The sports festival will kick off today at 15:00 at the Eros Primary School sports fields. The official opening ceremony with the sponsors will be held on Saturday at 13:00.
The tournament serves as a platform for boys and girls aged 7 to 17, from various schools and academies to showcase their football skills.
One of the organisers, DSFA operations director, Jason Shikomba said this year’s event aims to raise awareness about the critical social issue of gender-based violence, which is prevalent in communities.
“DSFA proudly says no to gender-based violence. We are committed to giving youngsters a platform to express themselves away from the streets and other toxic elements. Our focus isn’t limited to that; development is our biggest guide this year,” he said.
Shikomba said this year’s edition has attracted over 70 teams from 15 academies across Windhoek, which includes the N/a’an ku sê School and several others.
He added that their focus and deviation on development ensures deserving winners get awarded trophies and medals. “We have also introduced a plate category for the younger age groups to ensure all teams and players have ample opportunities to play multiple games,” he said.
Matches will be held across three fields: the main rugby field, Eros Girls School field and the sports field inside the Eros Primary School premises. Spectators and parents can look forward to exciting, competitive football and an impressive display of skills.
“We kindly remind parents to be patient, as development is a process. With their support, we can nurture our boys and girls to reach their full potential,” he noted.
The organisers extended gratitude to the event’s sponsors. “This tournament would not have been possible without the support of Kickstart Namibia, Asoni Digital, Shangadi Group, Trophy Palace, Simply Clean Custom Carshop, Fashion World, Dynamic Water Solutions, Centurion Investments and Letshego,” Shikomba added.
