Eagles face Scotland in vital rematch today
Rain interference has robbed the Richelieu Namibia Eagles of a vital league point after their International Cricket Council World League Two triangular series home match against Nepal finished with no result on Friday.
The Namibians will now have little choice but to end their 2022 calendar year on a high by winning both their rematch against Scotland today, as well as against Nepal on Wednesday.
The suspect form of the Namibian top-order batting has put the team under pressure recently, with Gerhard Erasmus being in good nick lately, but finding support lacking.
The ankle ligament injury to Jan Frylinck, which will be keeping him out of contention for a while, has been a setback to both the batting and bowling performances.
Erasmus made a fighting 96 not out against Scotland last Thursday, but the tourists still raced to a four-wicket win in just 42.1 overs, surpassing the humble total of 211/9 reached by the Namibians.
On Friday, Nepal were restricted to 197 all out in 49.5 overs with another good bowling performance by Tangeni Lungameni (3/27 in 10 overs) and JJ Smit (1/30 in 9.5).
Ruben Trumpelmann (0/38 in 10) and Smit sent down three and two maiden overs respectively.
However, in reply, Namibia only reached 4/0 in one over before rain in Olympia stopped play, which did not resume again – forcing Namibia and Nepal to be satisfied with one league point each.
The series standings (before yesterday’s result between Scotland and Nepal):
1 Oman (won 21 out of 36), 44 points
2 Scotland (won 20 out of 29), 42 points
3 USA (won 16 out of 36), 35 points
4 Namibia (won 16 out of 28), 33 points
5 United Arab Emirates (won 12 out of 26), 27 points
6 Nepal (won 8 out of 21), 18 points
7 Papua New Guinea (won 2 out of 28), 5 points.
