Emorgen Jansen won an all-expenses paid trip to France as part of Namibia Media Holdings’ 2023 Le Rugby Jol France competition.

Jansen, a 26-year-old who grew up in Rehoboth, was one of the seven finalists from more than 13 000 entries who took part in the final round held at Arebbusch Lodge on Friday afternoon.

The other six finalists were Diamando Tjombe, Neels van der Walt, Emile Christians, Joe Oosthuizen, Eben-Ezer Martin and Gloria Poultion.

Jansen’s prize will include travelling to France during September, as well as tickets to Namibia’s opening rugby match against Italy in Saint-Etienne.

She told Namibia Media Holdings: “I hardly slept the night before and tonight it will be impossible. It’s a dream, I can’t believe it came true. Many thanks to Namibia Media Holdings, DStv Namibia and Windhoek Draught for making this possible.”

Jansen says she is thinking of taking her mother to Paris with her, but her final travelling companion is yet to be confirmed.

The procedure

The competition, supported by DStv Namibia and Windhoek Draught, started seven months ago and was completed on the seventh day of the seventh month of 2023. If the digits two, two and three of 2023 are added together, the result is also seven.

In short, the final round worked like this.

Namibia, with seven letters, was used to determine the last seven participants with a lucky draw – N (Jansen), A (Tjombe), M (Poulton), I (Martin), B (Christians), I (Van der Walt) and A (Oosthuizen).

Each one then had to draw the letter from the hat into a bag that was assigned to her or him in the previous draw to be part of the final three lucky participants.

Jansen had her draw spot-on and so did Poulton and Oosthuizen. Each had three black balloons with blue, red and white confetti in them. The lucky participant who popped the balloon with blue in it would be crowned the winner, because blue is the color of Namibia’s national rugby team jersey.

Jansen was beside herself with joy when her balloon was popped and spat out its blue confetti. Of course, the disappointment was palpable in the other finalists, but they celebrated together with her.
