Damian’s Sport Academy are the proud hosts of the Momentum Junior Classic Golf Tournament set to kick off today (Tuesday) until Wednesday at the Walvis Bay Golf Club.

Organiser, Damian da Silva explained that they are expecting at least 30 entries for the event.

“This is the first time the Momentum Junior Classic is taking place on the coast. It’s a spin-off event that has the potential to grow into a series under the Momentum Junior Golf Series, which originally focused on central Namibia, specifically in Windhoek.”

He explained that the goal is to explore the potential for further development and growth from this events.

“We have four handicap divisions: A, B, C, and D. The A and B Divisions: These cater to the more skilled golfers. They play medal format. C Division, also plays medal format but with a maximum of 10 shots per hole. After reaching the limit, players pick up the ball. D Division: Due to higher handicaps, players in this division compete in Stableford format, which uses a point system. For non-handicap divisions, players are split into age groups, ages 6–7, 8–10, 11–13, 14–15, and 16–18 (boys and girls).”

Da Silva explained that this structure allows kids without handicaps to participate and encourages the growth of the game. These players start 100 meters from the green and have a maximum of 8 shots per hole. If the ball isn’t holed within 8 shots, they pick it up. This format helps maintain a good pace of play and minimizes frustration, especially for beginners, by avoiding excessive strokes on a single hole.”

He explained that in terms of awards, medals and trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place in each division.

“We encourage children with some golf experience and a basic understanding of the rules to join.”
