Masilingi ready to run in Gaborone, says Botha

Sprinter Beatrice Masilingi is ready to compete in major competitions after a successful recovery to her dislocated shoulder, coach Henk Botha has revealed.Her first-ever participation two weekends ago as the only Namibian representative at the World Athletics Indoor Championship in Nanjing, China, did not go according to plan when she unfortunately fell during training and dislocated her shoulder.Coach Henk Botha yesterday confirmed that the 21-year-old, who was due to compete in the 60 metres sprint at the indoor championships, has now made a full recovery and can compete in future competitions. “Yes I can confirm that Beatrice is now fully recovered and is ready to compete in different competitions. “She has been training well since then and I am optimistic about her form as she prepares for major events. “It was really not a serious injury which could keep her from the track a long time and that is why she has made a steady recovery,” Botha said. The 200-metres Tokyo 2021 Olympics finalist has been back in action and competing in several 60m events in Europe in the first few months of this year. Botha is confident that his high-profile sprinter will be able to add more accolades given her desire to compete and win. Masilingi and her compatriot Christine Mboma have been Namibia’s sprinting sensations in recent times, claiming several accolades at global athletics stages. Eyes on Botswana Botha revealed that Masilingi’s next potential competition will be at the World Athletics Continental Tour slated for Botswana's capital Gaborone on 12 April. Last year, more than 20,000 athletes from almost 200 countries competed in the Continental Tour, setting one world record, 12 area records, 205 national records and 7146 personal bests.In less than two weeks from now, the series will include the southern African country. “Beatrice is ready to compete in any event and our first one after her injury is possibly the continental tour in Botswana. “She is likely to compete in the 100 or 200 meter events at a competition that will very likely host world-class star sprinters,” Botha said.
