Mighty Civilians surprise in Friendship Tournament

The Icestocksport Association of Namibia hosted its thrilling Friendship Tournament last weekend, marking the first significant event since the African Championship in August 2022.

Six teams from various Windhoek neighbourhoods showcased their best on the concrete surface to determine the champions. In an exciting competition filled with suspense from start to finish, the “Mighty Civilians” led by Detlef Pfeifer and his teammates from the Dolam/Katutura area emerged as the victors.

The young team from Dolam proved to be a serious contenders despite their relative inexperience compared to some established players.

Other teams also left a strong impression. Second place was secured by the “Experts” under the leadership of Max Feilmeier, a member of the 2022 African Championship team. Completing the podium were “That Team” and “Skibidi Rizzlers”, two youth teams, as well as the all-female “Wannabees”.

Detlef Pfeifer, as president of the Icestocksport Association of Namibia, expressed enthusiasm for the tournament’s outcome. “The Friendship Tournament was an excellent opportunity to revive and celebrate our sport in Namibia.”

The Association extends its gratitude to all participants, sponsors and supporters of in this successful event.

For those interested in Icestocksport, an opportunity will soon be presented to try out this fascinating sport. On Sunday 19 May, the national association invites all interested individuals to experience Icestocksport at the DTS grounds. One spot in the men’s team for the African Championship at the end of June in Gabon is still available.

Women interested in Icestocksport are also welcome, although there is currently no active women's team. The association however hopes to establish a women's team in the future.
