Miller draws first blood at Hollard's Gravel & Dirt
Namibian cyclist and top mountain biker, Alex Miller, proved once again why he is one of the best after a resounding Gravel and Dirt Series win at Lake Oanob over the weekend.
It was the first Hollard Gravel and Dirt MTB X-Ride of the year, with more than 150 cyclists showing up for the prestigious event.
Familiar faces and well-known cyclists graced the event with their presence, with excitement building in what is expected to be a competitive Hollard Gravel and Dirt Series season.
Star-studded
Drikus Coetzee, Ingram Cuff and Gerhard Mans were also out there to showcase their skills on the day, testing a new route.
However, it was Alex Miller who wanted it the most among a star-studded field after claiming first in a time of 02:28:11.
"The race was great, and now we look forward to the next one," Miller said after his win.
Xavier Papo came in second, while Simon Kaita settled for third in a fiercely contested race.
The elite women's category saw Monique du Plessis finish ahead of the pack in a time of 03:20:39.
Du Plessis expressed her delight at the victory, which puts her in first place in the series.
Ada Kahl finished in second after riding for 03:25:52 and Monique Taylor finished in third with a time of 04:04:49.
Racing to win
Christiaan Van Der Westhuizen (14) impressed as he won the boys category after clocking 01:28:23.
Matti Lukaschik finished second in 01:33:38, and Arno Steenkamp took third in 02:12:09.
Ingram Cuff felt a little under the weather but impressed in the veteran men's category, taking first place in 03:04:07, while Fanie Steenkamp secured second in 03:09:37, and Jaco Lamprecht took third in 03:20:16.
With the next race taking place in Swakopmund on 9 April 2023, the cyclists are looking forward to racing each other to the finish line.
