Narrow win for Old Boys

Cricket Namibia's 50-over Premier League season kicked off on Saturday morning with one match at Wanderers field.
The first team of WHS Old Boys (138 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 36.2 overs) clinched their first hard-fought victory of the 2024 season in Cricket Namibia’s 50-over Premier League against Trustco United (137 all out in 31.2 overs).
United won the toss and elected to bat first. Handré Klazinga (34 off 23 balls, 4x4, 1x6) top-scored for United and later also took four wickets for 30 runs in 10 overs to claim the player of the match award.
Chris Freeman (28 runs) and Franko Bergh (20) tried their best to stem the tide against the likes of Ruben Trumpelmann (three wickets for 26 runs in six overs), Tangeni Lungameni (2/17 in seven) and Shaun Fouché (2/28 in 8.2) in the Old Boys bowling attack.
Malan Kruger (2/27 in four) and Henry Grant (1/19 in three) also contributed with ball in hand for the winning team.
Old Boys recovered from 44/5 in 12.5 overs, after their top five batters were cheaply dismissed for less than 3.38 runs per over.
Tangeni Lungameni batted like a seasoned pro, accumulating 33 not out from 46 deliveries to emerge as Old Boys' best batter in a decisive contribution.
Freeman (1/45 in 10), Bergh (1/17 in 4.2) and captain Christiaan Schumacher (1/28 in seven) took the other three wickets for United.
Old Boys managed nine boundaries (9x4), while United hit 16 (14x4, 2x6). Old Boys conceded 10 extra runs and United a whopping 21.
