Ndjolonimus retains title

Namibia’s hard-hitting Paulinus “John John” Ndjolonimus retained his African international super middleweight title of the World Boxing Organisation after beating Joseph Maigisya of Tanzania with a fourth-round technical knockout in the MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing Bonanza held at Ongwediva on Friday night.

The Namibian said he was delighted with the victory and thanked his fans for the support they gave him in the north.

“I am happy that I won this fight and the fact that my family was here today is kind of something special.

“I knew he could not take my punches and that is why he threw in the towel, because he was feeling it,” Ndjolonimus said.

Maigisya initially started off with a combination of punches which had Ndjolonimus under pressure in the first round.

Shinima wins again

Meanwhile, Charles “Super Shine” Shinima also retained his WBO Africa welterweight title.

The Namibian boxer fought an elusive and experienced Tanzanian, Idd Pialari, over 12 rounds.

“This was like a marathon because this guy was running away and I could not really drop him as I would have wanted.

“The good thing is that I still won the fight and that is something important,” Shinima noted.

In a welterweight national title fight, Immanuel Mungandjela made easy work of Hedison Nghipondoka after the two went the full scheduled 10 rounds.

Hipondoka could not withstand the pressure of Mungandjela’s punches and kept moving around the ring to keep the distance.
