NFA appoints new secretary-general

The Namibia Football Association (NFA) has announced the appointment of Charles Siyauya as its new secretary-general.
The appointment was made by the NFA’s executive council during a meeting held in Gobabis.
“Siyauya was selected following a rigorous application and interview process. He impressed the council with his strong track record and experience in leadership, along with his impressive academic qualifications,” the NFA said yesterday.
The former firebrand spokesperson of the Swapo Party Youth League during the 2000s holds a Master of Arts in Security and Strategic Studies, and a Bachelor of Education.
He replaces interim secretary-general Jochen Traut, whose appointment was announced in July 2022 by the Fifa normalisation committee. His contract expired at the end of March.
“We are confident that Mr. Siyauya is the best person to lead the NFA into a new era,” said NFA President, Mr Robert Shimooshili.
“His experience, vision, and academic background will be invaluable as we work to develop and grow the game of football in Namibia, taking it to all corners of the country and enhancing its commercial value for the benefit of all stakeholders.”
The president continued: “We are particularly excited about Mr. Siyauya’s commitment to supporting our players, officials, referees, and everyone else involved in Namibian football. We believe that under his leadership, the NFA will be able to achieve great things.”
Siyauya brings a wealth of experience to the NFA, having previously served as administrator of the UNAM campus in Katima Mulilo. He also held leadership positions at the University of Namibia (UNAM), including coordinator of international relations, personal assistant to the UNAM vice chancellor, and administrator of international student affairs.
These diverse experiences demonstrate his strong administrative and interpersonal skills.
More than just an administrator, Siyauya is an avid follower of local football. He played for Young Space Age in Katima Mulilo during his youth. His passion for sports extends beyond football, as he closely follows local athletics, boxing, rugby and volleyball. This deep understanding of Namibia's sporting landscape will be a valuable asset to the NFA.
