The Windhoek Motor Club M Z Motors Speed Festival at the Tony Rust raceway that kicks off tomorrow promises to deliver exciting adrenaline-inducing racing over the weekend.

Twenty-five blue blood racers from South Africa are on the menu with a mixed grill of mouth-watering racing machines. Add into the mix 24 local petrol heads who will not budge an inch to their neighbours’ weapons of choice.

With seven BMW racers, one brutal Chrysler 300C, a blistering fast Nissan R33 Turbo, a lightning quick Dodge Inex Legend powered by a Yamaha FJ 1200 engine and eleven Classic cars, the event will dish up hot circuit-racing as well as drags on Friday and Saturday.

Western Cape vintage and classic club Ford & Friends will be represented as well, with a 3-litre V6 Capri, an immaculate 1967 Cortina, five Escorts, a Sierra 2 liter Turbo and a beautiful Fairlane 500 V8 with Albert Cook behind the wheel of a vintage VW Scirocco.

Seasoned racers like Gary Manwaring, Mansoor Parker, Anwar Levy, Cedric Burger, Shane and Gary Smith, André van der Merwe, Jacques Blom, Steven Heydenrych and Jaco Lambert will take on Namibia’s well-known speedsters like Bazill van Rhyn, Allan Martin, Richard Slamet, Hein Bisschoff and Michel Rust in the top class.

Gates open at 10:00 tomorrow with practice and qualifying rounds. The day ends with drag races. The gate fee is N$100 (for 13 years and older), or free to those under 13.

On Saturday the gates open at 08:00 and the action starts at 10:00. Gate fee is N$150 (for 13 and older) or free to under 13s. A weekend pass is N$200.
