African Stars begin this year's Debmarine Namibia Premiership campaign with a trip to Okahandja in a bid to make ground on log leaders Khomas Nampol FC.
African Stars team manager Lesley Kozonguizi says that the club has its sights set on picking up valuable points following a shaky start to the 2024/25 football season.
Stars will travel to Okahandja were they will be hosting Young Brazilians and Khomas Nampol in a double header weekend.
The league champions are well aware that they will need to put up a good performance in order to retain their dominance of league football.
“Yes, we are aware that we did not have a good start this season but I can assure the fans that the team is now gelling in training and we can look forward to a much improved performance.
“As champions of the league, we know very well that the challenge will even be bigger because every team wants to beat the defending champions.
“We however express confidence in the team that we have and we will try harder to make the fans happy,” Kozonguizi said.
Kozonguizi further invites the locals to come in their numbers and support the team in Okahandja.
The matches were initially scheduled to take place at the Independence Stadium this weekend but were moved to the Nau-Aib Stadium.
“The fixtures were moved to Okahandja because there are already matches taking place at the Independence Stadium.
“I therefore invite the football fans to make their way to Okahandja and support ‘Okaserandu’,” Kozonguizi reiterated.
African Stars will first battle Young Brazilians on Saturday at 14:00 before they play Khomas Nampol FC on Sunday at 17:00.
Stars began their season with a 0-0 draw against Unam and 1-0 victory over Civics FC before being held 1-1 by newly promoted Cuca Tops.
Their biggest defeat this season came at the hands of Julinho Sporting after they went down 4-1 in Rundu. Stars bounced back to a 3-1 victory over Blue Boys, with another 3-0 victory over Blue Waters FC.
The champions finds themselves in fifth place having played six matches and gaining 11 points. The club however faces the thread of Khomas Nampol FC who have played a match more and are leading the log with 16 points.
