Stars Set for PstBet NFA Cup Final
African Stars Soccer Club, reigning champions of the 2023/24 Debmarine Namibia Premiership, are primed for a spectacular finish to their season as they head into the PstBet NFA Cup final. After a successful pre-season campaign in Botswana, Stars have demonstrated their readiness and form ahead of the crucial match.
During their pre-season tournament, African Stars excelled, winning four out of five games. The tournament kicked off with a solid 1-0 victory against Gaborone United Sporting Club on 18 July, at Dinaledi Academy. The team's standout performance came the following day at the BIAC Grounds, where they defeated SuperSport United FC 1-0. The only goal of the match was scored by striker Awilo Stephanus. SuperSport United, a prominent South African club from the DStv Premiership, had finished 7th in the 2023/24 season. Post-match, African Stars' head coach Ronny Kanalelo expressed satisfaction with his team's performance, stating, "For me, it’s not just about the result. I want to see if the boys still remember the dynamics of last season. It was good to see them put in the performance as we are also preparing for a CAF final."
SuperSport United's coach, Gavin Hunt, acknowledged the competitive nature of the match, noting, "It was a good game. Stars are a strong, physical team. We tried out a few things and gave some of the younger players some minutes before the new season."
African Stars continued their strong form with a 2-0 win over Masitaoka on July 20, 2024, at Dinaledi Academy. They rounded off their pre-season with a 2-2 draw against BDF XI Sporting Club on July 21, 2024, at the BIAC Grounds.
The much-anticipated PstBet NFA Cup final will be held on July 27, 2024, at the Windhoek Independence Stadium. African Stars will face Young Brazillians FC, with both teams eager to seize the trophy. With their impressive pre-season form, African Stars are well-positioned to add another title to their illustrious season.
