The Namibian Basketball Federation (NBF), in partnership with Sanlam, is hosting the national Sanlam 3x3 tournament this Friday and Saturday at the University of Namibia (Unam) Rundu campus.

With prizes of N$2 500 for both senior male and senior female winners, this event is set to be a highlight of the Namibian basketball calendar.

The national basketball 3x3 tournament has seen strong support from notable partners over the years. In 2021, VIVO Energy backed the event, followed by KFC in 2022. Last year and continuing this year, Sanlam has taken up the mantle, reinforcing their commitment to grassroots basketball and community development.

NBF president Nigel Mubita expressed his enthusiasm, highlighting the significant growth of basketball across various regions since the end of the Covid-19 era.

“Since then, basketball has really moved away from just being active in the Khomas and Oshana regions. We're seeing more regions really stepping up to the plate.

“I'm personally looking forward to seeing the Omusati team. They've got those tall and athletic players. We have seen a lot of skill growth and determination from all age groups throught the various leagues and internal tournaments."

Enhancing competitiveness

Mubita emphasized the importance of regional competition in elevating the game.

“The strength of Khomas and Oshana teams is clear, but as other regions compete against them, they gain valuable experience and improve.

“Since the resumption after Covid, each year we see improvements in the tournament, the competition, and the players’ skill levels.”

With top teams from across Namibia converging at the Unam Rundu campus, the Sanlam 3x3 tournament is set to be an exciting display of talent, teamwork, and competitive spirit.

Age groups (males and females): U19 / Seniors (20-35 years) / Masters (35 and older).
